Trespassers Beware! Fort Conley and Wyandot Women Warriors

Featuring Chief Judith Manthe, Wyandot Nation of Kansas, Madeline Easely, playwright and member of Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma, Second Chief Louisa Libby, Wyandot Nation of Kansas, Tai Edwards, Professor, Johnson County Community College, and moderator Neysa Page-Lieberman, Monuments to Movements.

The Wyandot Nation of Kansas and Monuments to Movements welcome you to a panel discussion and project launch for Trespassers Beware! Fort Conley and Wyandot Women Warriors. Trespassers Beware! is a commemorative public art project in development. A newly commissioned Fort Conley installation will illuminate the story of the Wyandot Conley sisters who occupied the historic Wyandot National Burying Ground in Kansas City, Kansas, saving it from from urban development and erasure. Their decades-long activism and legal arguments protected this sacred land and contributed to preservation and tribal sovereignty movements.

Immediately following the discussion, attendees are invited to walk to the Wyandot National Burying Ground for a self-guided tour, and /or to view archival works and artifacts from the Conley sisters collection at the Kansas City Kansas Public Library. The cemetery and library are adjacent to each other, and one block from the Hilton Garden Inn. Panel discussion participants and librarian will be on hand for Q & A.
