Jill McKeever

Jill McKeever is a multidisciplinary artist and business owner who lives and works in Kansas City. She received her degree in Electronic Art from Missouri State University in 2006. She now creates perfume from natural materials, forming For Strange Women perfume in 2009.

With For Strange Women, Jill carefully sources plant essences from artisan producers around the world and constructs them into small batch collectible oils. For Strange Women began as a website that utilizes her design, photography, and writing as a way to give life to the perfume that could not otherwise be experienced through a screen. The perfume collection is ever-evolving and includes Limited Edition releases on each New Moon.

Jill constructs each perfume with respect to the aesthetic and aromatherapeutic qualities as well as captures complex “scentscapes” that exist in the form of specific memories, places, and objects.  She offers a bespoke perfume service to individuals. With a background in music and audio production, Jill has developed a synesthetic approach to olfactory art, as this medium lacks its own vocabulary and education in our culture.

Jill was selected for an Artosphere Partner Grant from the Walton Arts Foundation in 2014 for her installation of a scent and sound piece entitled Synesthesia. She was featured in O, the Oprah Magazine in 2011 for her story of becoming a perfumer. She has been featured in several other publications and productions including LOHAS (China), Nylon, FAMOUS (Australia), Willow and Sage, BUST, Southern Living, Country Living, The Kansas City Star, SPACES, KCUR Central Standard, The Pitch (Best of KC), Ink KC, and numerous web podcasts and blogs.
