Kyle Lilley (b.2002) is an artist hailing from Kansas City. He works primarily in painting and mixed media, and his art is heavily inspired by the Art Brut and Abstract Expressionism movements. Lilley”s favorite artists to study include Jean Dubuffet, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Jackson Pollock, Cy Twombly and Dorothea Tanning to provide context to his work and the thought process behind it. He tries to have a deliberately untrained aesthetic so that anyone and everyone can relate to and understand his art. He believes in the work now think later ideology like most of his favorite contemporaries, and tries to tap into the flow state whenever working. Lilley envisions his art on a global scale in galleries in all corners of the world, but his first priority is growing locally. He wants to be big in Kansas City first and grow his following and collector base so that he can have the support of his city for when he goes deeper into the art world and begins to show in various galleries in different cities. Lilley always prioritizes and alway will prioritize staying authentic. He hopes to be a representation of KC and continue to approach his work with this thought process and the work continues to evolve each and every day.
