Crescendo Award Theatre Festival

A theatre festival designed to uncover and celebrate Black, Indigenous, and People of Color playwrights, the Crescendo Award Theatre Festival, funded and started by the Theatre Community Fund of Kansas City, will be hosted at The Arts Asylum Theatre.

Two plays have been awarded to be produced for this festival:

Price of Bail by Olivia Hill-

How much would you sacrifice to save the family that destroyed you? Price of Bail is a family drama about survival, truth, and sisterhood. Join three sisters that are pressured by their mother to collect enough money to pay for their brother’s bail after he is arrested for rape. Experience these women navigate history and trauma with humor, rage, and the help of their ancestors–only to find their collective power on the other side.

Black Man, MO by Terrace Wyatt Jr-

Living black in KCMO is something, especially when it comes to family. Mitchell Kray Francis was murdered by a cop which leads to a sit down between his mother, Diane and Officer Joseph. Hearing the most personal conversation between the two, there comes a point in time when tragedy like this is expressed not just from BLM supporters, or the black community…but from a mother.
