  • 90.9 The Bridge
    Music;  Non-Profit
Turn On. Tune In. Listen Local. The Bridge is listener-supported, non-commercial NPR music radio for Kansas City. In 2013, Kansas City PBS acquired the Triple-A (adult album alternative) radio station broadcasting out of Warrensburg, Missouri. While KTBG 90.9 moved down the road the 60-some miles from Warrensburg to Kansas City, the station’s passion for local music, community, and independent voices has remained the same. In fact, with the power of KCPT behind it, The Bridge has strengthened its commitment to weaving new, rare, and local music into all of our playlists, right alongside familiar hits and classics you know and love. The Bridge connects music lovers with music makers through performances and interviews. As KTBG 90.9, we’re out in the community, supporting the musicians, the venues, the listeners. Our website brings you local industry voices, breaking music news and national music news. No other station does what we do. And nobody else in town plays as much local music as The Bridge. Period. Our city is a true original. And so is The Bridge.

    Afterword Tavern and Shelves
    Literary;  Music
A REFUGE FOR THE THIRSTY, FAMISHED AND INQUISITIVE OF KANSAS CITY.  A good book has the remarkable ability to connect friends over midnight discussions, or to a garrulous passenger on the streetcar who loves the same writer. Simple paper pages can inspire a visit to a city or reconnect someone to a time and place of their past. Books can spark an idea or incite an argument and provide a tranquil escape from the chaotic. Beer, wine, spirits, and food share this quality. Rather than leave one of ’em out we decided to combine their collective powers under a single roof. Thus, Afterword Tavern & Shelves was born. While it may be libations and books we’re selling on paper, at a philosophical level we are peddling discovery and the city in which we live. We invite you to walk through our door, and when you depart we hope that you do so having discovered something stirringly novel.

  • Charlotte House Series located in Kansas City MO
    Charlotte House Series
    Music;  Non-Profit
The Charlotte House Series connects musicians to the local community in homes throughout Kansas City, starting with one on Charlotte Street where it was founded. While aiming to provide a unique concert experience accessible to all audiences, the Series cherishes a music tradition that has seemingly been forgotten, that of a salon style in which music was often performed in small settings such as parlors or living rooms. Popular in Europe throughout much of the 19th century, the salon was not only a setting for musicians of the time to perform but also for composers themselves to showcase new works. Pieces performed in such spaces regularly featured a high degree of virtuosity and showmanship, and the intimate nature of such venues was conducive to an elegance and nostalgia found in much of the other music of the era as well. Through attending concerts in living rooms and intimate spaces we hope you enjoy a new way of experiencing music, the old way. The Charlotte House Series is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization

  • Classical Revolution KC located in Kansas City MO
    Classical Revolution KC
    Music;  Non-Profit
When it comes down to it, Beethoven mixes well with beer. We seek to perform classical music in places you might not expect. From Monteverdi to Missy Mazzoli, our performances showcase a cross-section of genres, time periods, and styles and our chamber musicians perform everywhere from cafes and bars to record stores and wineries. Classical Revolution KC is a non-profit chamber music organization that strives to share the importance of classical music in a live performance setting, while showcasing the talents of some of KC’s finest musicians. After lamenting the lack of live performances of their favorite chamber music, founders Alyssa and Nick Bell joined with friends to juxtapose classical music with a decidedly non-traditional venue: a beloved local bar. The result was a success. Each month our team puts on a live performance at Californos in Westport. Check our calendar for details. Recent collaborations with local artists as well as holding a solo recital series featuring acclaimed talent such as Adam Levin have allowed us to expand our vision. These performances give us a chance to share what we love with others, as well an opportunity to perform. It’s our sincere hope those who attend our performances will not only share a fun evening of music, but they will bring their friends the next time they come! Classical music has an image problem: it’s old, it’s tired, it’s formal, and can be seen as boring. Who better to convince the world otherwise than a team of talented young professionals?!
