My adult career has been squarely based on being an architect, however my formal training is in music and 2D art. I’m a lifelong violinist and composer. All of those skills are ever evolving.
It’s been over three decades since I was a student in the art studios and music practice rooms of UMKC, but after a lengthy hiatus from art, in 2012 I decided to pick it up again. In the past I worked with watercolor, oils, and pen. The current chapter is mainly in Prisma Color pencil.
What has transpired on to paper over the past decade eventually became a collection of drawings that has now claimed much floor space. BUT, the idea of what I was doing was further validated when I won 1st place at the 2016 Lenexa Art Show for my entry Green Felt Clerestory.
I thoroughly enjoy working out abstract and surreal images that emerge. Many of the pieces are inspired by music. It’s been said that writers should ‘write what you know’. I find it fascinating to ‘draw what you hear’ and I don’t see that connection changing any time soon.
